Greetings!
Welcome to the Molly Rocket home page. We are an independent game company founded in 2004.
The game industry is rotting from the inside out.
The best quality works of art, from paintings to chocolates to
furniture, come from artisans who love what they do. Unfortunately,
the game industry has evolved away from artisan development. Each
year it is increasingly dominated by impersonal development processes
driven by business rather than a dedication to, and love for, the
craft. There are no signs that this trend will reverse.
Soon, you will no longer be able to purchase new games -
only bigger, more extravagant versions of the same games you've
already played. Is that all there is left to gaming? Absolutely not!
There are many great things to come.
Games can be much more powerful experiences than they are today.
We have only scratched the surface in terms of emotional content,
interaction, presentation, meaning, and relationship to the social
discourse. Make no mistake: expanding the scope of our art is the
most important challenge for the upcoming century of game
development.
The mainstream game industry clearly cannot meet this challenge.
Dedicated, independent developers can. We can take risks, we can
follow unique new visions, we can value art above business. But right
now, what few independent developers there are rarely do anything
substantially different from the mainstream.
We're here to change things.
I founded Molly Rocket to help redefine the nature of independent
game development. Our company is based on devotion to the art of
games, and the desire to expand the conventional perception of what
games can be. To this end, we adhere to a strict set of guiding
principles:
- We are dedicated to making games of the highest quality. Each
game must be
engaging, intelligent, unique, and beautiful.
If a game lacks any one of these traits, we don't ship it.
- We only have one game in development at a time. If we didn't believe
a game was worth our full and undivided attention, we wouldn't be
making it.
- We do not permit artistic limitations to be imposed on our
development process. If we work with a publisher or console
manufacturer, we will not accept any contract or platform
requirement which we believe could limit our artistic options. By
extension, we do not accept advertisements on our web page or in our
games, as their presence necessarily constitutes a decision which was
not made solely for the good of the game.
- We are fully independent, and always will be. As a core business
practice, we will always have enough money to run for several years
without external funding.
And that's Molly Rocket in a nutshell.
Thanks for visiting our web site. Try out
