Every Molly Rocket game must be engaging, intelligent, unique, and beautiful. If a game lacks any one of these traits, we don't ship it.
-
Engaging
A game should be an engrossing experience. The player should immediately be drawn into the world of the game, and remain immersed in the mechanical and fictional aspects of the game for its duration.
-
Intelligent
The average game player is typically smart and has experienced diverse works in other media, yet most games consistently deliver inexcusably bad fiction and shallow levels of interactivity. This needs to change. Games should be infused with insight, meaningful characterizations, and true observations about life.
-
Unique
Each game should be something special. The players' interaction with the game's mechanics, its story, its characters, its theme, and its emotional content should all come from a central, original thesis. A game should never be essentially equivalent to a previous game, nor should it be a random collection of ideas borrowed from the hit games of the previous year. The highest art in any medium is a complete, coherent expression of a novel idea using the full power of that medium, and games should not be an exception.
-
Beautiful
Games are first and foremost an audio/visual medium. Whether the content is enticing, grotesque, frightening, or realistic, we believe it can be made beautiful by crafting it with care and attention to detail. Every game should be one that you want to see, hear, and experience, regardless of its intended emotional effect.
